October 28th, 2013
I finished my 2,660 mile walk from Mexico to Canada. I reached the border on September 25th, 2013. I made up a clock time of "26:60" to represent the distance from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail. I kept a journal the whole time on my lunky.com. There is a lot to read there, and over 12,000 photos to look at. In the coming weeks I'll be getting the Human Clock related photos into the website.

Updates are going to be a little slower right now since I am hiking the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. You can follow my travels here: on lunky.com!

Welcome to the new site! Version 4.0!

Things new to this version:
  • A complete rewrite of all the code with new and exciting features (and probably bugs!)
  • A new layout with my design skills that look like they never advanced farther than creating military field manuals during the Cold War.
  • Finally! You can now put a small version of the Human Clock on your website/blog. To do this the way I wanted ended up taking a long, long time. Most photos in the widgets have a zoom in/zoom out feature, so when you mouse over the photo it will "Zoom out". This solves the problem of the time being unreadable when the photos are reduced to a small size. Yes I had to build all the tools and then go through every single photo and mark where the time was in the photo. That took a lot of patience (and beer).
  • A new clock model called "The Montager" (this name might change). It is just the time from each photo zoomed way in. What is behind each one? Well you have to click on them to find out? Photos will automatically display every 10 seconds if you do not click anything.
  • The original Human Clock layout is still there (under the "options" menu), complete with its funny urls and everything. Small thumbnails of the other photos in each timeslot show now. The pre/postview feature is not currently implemented.
  • Downloadable Apple Dashboard / Windows Gadgets
  • User accounts! Now you can look at all your existing photos that have been approved and add an "about this photo" caption to any of them if you would like to tell people more about the photo. The most frequent submitters are shown in the stats area at the bottom of the homepage.
  • Photos are broken down by country/region now. Filtering photos by country is currently turned off, but I am still using the information to generate the stats at the bottom of the homepage, so can at least see which countries are popular.
  • Improved uploader. Now you can upload more than photo at a time, see what you have uploaded, and what is currently waiting for approval.
  • The songs that mention a time are actually shown on the "Montager" clock now whenever their specific time comes up.
  • A mobile-friendly version.
  • Ads! Ack! I had to put more of these on the site since it is costing a small fortune to keep the site going every month. That said, for the whopping donation of $3.65 per year the ads will be shutoff when you are logged into your account. Go ad free now!
  • I've written a bunch of code for other features (like galleries and photo filters) that are going to be part of Phase II.
  • See the about page with further details.
